Chalk and lime silos for wastewater treatment plants and wastewater technology in Dortmund

Our GRP chalk and lime silos are used in municipal and industrial wastewater technology and provide a reliable solution for storing and demand-based dosing of chalk and lime. Whether for wastewater treatment plants, wastewater utilities, or projects by engineering firms and plant manufacturers in Dortmund and the surrounding area – we offer tailored silo solutions for a wide range of requirements.

What are chalk and lime silos, and why are they used?

Chalk and lime silos are used for the safe storage and demand-based dosing of chalk and lime. They are used in particular in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants, where the dosed substances help stabilize the pH level and regulate acid capacity. This creates optimal conditions for biological treatment processes and supports reliable wastewater treatment.

The silos are made of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), which is characterized by high corrosion resistance and durability. Combined with automated dosing technology, they enable a consistent, reliable, and demand-based material feed.

The composition of wastewater can vary significantly depending on its origin and load. In particular, changes in acid load can affect the chemical balance in the wastewater and impair the effectiveness of the treatment processes. Through the targeted use of suitable chalk and lime products, such fluctuations can be compensated for and the required process conditions maintained. It is crucial that the type and quantity of material used are matched to the respective wastewater composition.

Are chalk and lime silos relevant for you?

Chalk and lime silos are used wherever reliable storage and controlled dosing of the materials are required. They play an important role, especially in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants, in ensuring stable treatment processes.

Key areas of application in Dortmund and the surrounding area include municipal wastewater utilities, wastewater and special-purpose associations, and industrial wastewater treatment plants, for example in the food, paper, or chemical industries. In addition, our silos are of interest to engineering firms and plant manufacturers in the water and wastewater sector who are planning new facilities or modernizing existing systems.

Thanks to their custom design, our chalk and lime silos can be adapted to your operational requirements and structural conditions. This means we can also provide suitable solutions for projects in Dortmund to ensure a reliable, demand-based material supply.

Security of supply through forward-looking material stockpiling

In wastewater treatment, the continuous availability of the required process materials is crucial. Sufficient stockpiling of chalk and lime helps to bridge supply bottlenecks and avoid interruptions in plant operation. Key factors include daily material consumption, delivery intervals, and available storage capacities. Forward-looking planning therefore provides the basis for a reliable and cost-effective material supply.

What advantages do our GRP chalk and lime silos offer?

  • High corrosion resistance: GRP is particularly resistant, even in demanding and aggressive environments.
  • Durable construction: The robust, reinforced design ensures high stability and a long service life.
  • Reliable material flow: Smooth inner walls and a steep discharge hopper support consistent emptying.
  • Low maintenance requirements: The well-engineered design reduces deposits and minimizes maintenance needs.
  • Automated dosing: Coordinated conveying and control technology enables a consistent, demand-based material feed.
  • Custom adaptation: Silo size, conveying technology, and control system can be flexibly adapted to the respective plant requirements.

How is a GRP chalk and lime silo constructed?

Our GRP chalk and lime silo consists of several coordinated components that enable safe storage and controlled material discharge.

The core component is the robust GRP silo body with reinforced substructure. The smooth inner walls and the long discharge hopper with a 67° incline support reliable emptying of the stored material. Depending on requirements, silo sizes with a capacity of up to 120 m³ are available.

The technical equipment includes, among other things, stainless-steel filling and vent lines, a pressure equalization valve and level sensors for monitoring material stock. A vibrator can be used if required to break up potential bridging and maintain material flow.

An exhaust air filter separates the dust generated during silo filling. The individual components are coordinated with one another and form a functional overall system.

How does automatic chalk and lime dosing work?

Chalk and lime are dosed via a specially designed tubular screw conveyor, which discharges the material from the silo in a controlled manner and feeds it to the intended point of use.

The screw conveyor is made of stainless steel and is equipped with specially matched screw flights that enable the most consistent material conveying possible. Length and inclination are adapted during project planning to your structural conditions and individual requirements.

Various control options are available. With time-controlled dosing, your desired run times and start times are defined. The material feed then takes place automatically. Alternatively, dosing can be carried out via a silo scale, allowing precisely defined quantities to be discharged.

Integration into an existing PLC plant control system is also possible. This allows the dosing system to be integrated into your existing operating processes.

What custom equipment options are available?

Each plant has different requirements for storage capacity, material conveying, and control. . That is why we can customize the GRP chalk and lime silos to your operating conditions.

In addition to different silo sizes, for example, the length and inclination of the screw conveyor, the design of the dosing technology, and level monitoring can be configured on a project-specific basis.

Additional level sensors enable monitoring of minimum quantities or timely notification that material replenishment is required. Different control concepts – from simple time-controlled dosing through to integration into existing process control systems – can also be implemented.

This results in a silo and dosing solution tailored to your application.

Chalk and lime silos in practice

Whether modernizing existing wastewater treatment plants or planning new wastewater treatment systems – GRP chalk and lime silos can be integrated into a wide range of plant concepts.

The combination of a corrosion-resistant silo body, reliable discharge technology, and automated dosing enables largely autonomous operation. Thanks to the custom adaptation of the components, both local space constraints and operational requirements can be taken into account.

Practical examples and reference plants show how the different technical designs can be used in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment.
